vintage lighting

Vintage hunting is always a treat in our Modern Cottage world, and without fail we tend to gravitate to the functional/industrial styles. This is particularly the case with antique lighting. From French explosion-proof pedants to oversized enamel fixtures, incorporating heritage lighting adds so much character to a Modern Cottage, with that important nod to utilitarian designs past. While it used to be hit or miss at antique and salvage shops, you can now find these fixtures more readily online at places like 1stdibs and Rejuvenation (which is where we found a pair of these oversized white pendants with their swoon-worthy green insulators).

This fantastic black pendant was a single we scored at a mart in Seattle. Same for this galvanized wall pair for which our awesome steel guy Pat cut custom, flat canopies to match so we could hardwire them.

Of course we always recommend old fixtures being checked and/or rewired by professionals. This is just one more way we like to mix old with new, while maintaining a clean, modern aesthetic in our Modern Cottages. Plus the joy of the hunt is half the fun!
